The National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program (the Program) has commenced the final round of surveillance after one red imported fire ant nest was detected in Beerwah on Wednesday 28 June 2017.
Program officers are surveying high risk areas out to a 1 km zone including parks, paddocks, and school ovals. Following as a final measure, the Program will conduct surveillance with the odour detection dogs around the detection site working towards achieving area freedom.
Residents and businesses have been very proactive in searching their properties and reporting suspect fire ants, as well as supporting our teams while in the area.
National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program encourages residents and businesses to remain vigilant and continue to report any suspect ants or ant nests on their property or in local parks and business areas.
