Get funded training through the apprenticeship and traineeship pathway — designed to support employers and their apprentices with subsidised, industry-aligned qualifications.
About This Pathway
The Career Start Program – Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment for eligible apprentices and trainees. Funding is provided by the Queensland Department of Trade, Employment and Training.
The program is designed to provide employers and their apprentices and trainees with the ability to select their preferred registered training organisation (RTO) for the delivery of the accredited training to meet their specific needs.
Co-Contribution Fees
The Qld State Government requires Co-Contribution Fees to be paid for each qualification. These fees are calculated per nominal hour within a unit of competency. The cost of the qualification changes depending on the electives chosen. The fact sheets below give an example of the fees payable for a non-concessional student that completes all of the units listed on that fact sheet.
The amount of the fees per nominal hour depends on whether the student is non-concessional or concessional.
- If non-concessional it is $1.60 per nominal hour.
- If concessional it is $0.64 per nominal hour (40%).
Concessional status applies when the student falls into one of the following categories:
- Holds a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds such a card and is named on the card;
- Holds an official form issued under Commonwealth law confirming that they, their partner, or the person of whom they are a dependant is entitled to concessions under a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card;
- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander;
- Has a disability;
- Is from a non-English speaking background;
- Is an adult prisoner.
Or, for an apprenticeship/traineeship — if the student is under 17 at the end of February in the year of training (whilst not at school and did not complete Year 12).
The student may be eligible for fee-free training if under 25 — refer to the fact sheet for the correct qualification to see if it is applicable to that course.
No fees are payable for school-based apprentices or trainees, whilst they are still school-based. Once the apprenticeship/traineeship is converted to part-time or full-time once the student is no longer at school, the fees will be calculated as per above — including if eligible for the under 25 fee free training.
Fees are not payable for any unit that is awarded a Credit Transfer or Transitional-Gap Training.
As part of the enrolment process we gather information to check a student's concessional status.
